Your wallet. Your identity. Your life. How would your life change if you lost your wallet?
Like most people my wallet contains a driver's license, a school ID, a debit card, some store credit/rewards cards, my car insurance card, some family photos, and some extra cash. Unlike most people my wallet also contains some of my favorite things. They can be tokens or pictures but they all mean something to me. I like to keep those things in my wallet because I have my wallet with me where ever I go so I know I have those things with me too. If something ever happened to my family or my house and I lost just about everything then I know I would still have some little things to remind me of the things that mean the most to me. The contents of my wallet can tell people that I am a student, my birthday, where I live, give them access to my bank account, my auto insurance and where I like to shop by all of the receipts I keep and most importantly it can give people my social security number. It can also tell people what means the most to me. I carry my wallet in my purse and it has many things in it too. It has lip gloss, a mirror, my cell phone, a pen, my running watch, a few hair ties, my iPod, a couple rings, some makeup, some hand lotion, and my Swiss army knife. If someone got a hold of my purse and not my wallet then I would feel fine because a purse is like a safe and the wallet is like the contents of that safe. If someone got a hold of my wallet then I would feel violated and like my life was not private anymore. I would feel lost without it because I use it and see it everyday.
By looking in my purse and wallet people might assume that I like shopping, that I don't travel outside of my little town very much, and that I am just a kid trying to get through college with no worries. They might assume that I'm a girly girl with the lip gloss, mirror, hand lotion, hair ties, rings and makeup in there. Also they might think that I have had problems before where I have needed some sort of protection because of the Swiss army knife. From the makeup and lip gloss they might assume that I like to fix myself up all the time even when I'm just out shopping or running errands. People could assume a lot from all the different things I have in my purse and wallet.
If all they had to go on was the contents of my purse and wallet people would miss a lot about my identity. They would not know that I love to run and that I have ran a couple marathons, that I want to do a triathlon, that I love to be outdoors, and that I really like animals. They would also not know that I like to ride motorcycles and love to get out of my little town. I have traveled to over 10 different countries and loved every single one of them. They also wouldn't know my friends or that I like to snowboard and go go-kart racing. They wouldn't know that I would like to be a nurse when I grow up and live in Europe sometime in my life. They wouldn't know that I moved to Washington about 5 years ago and they wouldn't know where I lived before that. I like to do a lot of things and I have done a lot of things in my life that aren't shown in my purse or wallet. The only things they show are who I am today and what I like right now not who I have become throughout my life and what experiences I have been through. Even though many things about who I am and my identity are in there people wouldn't even begin to scratch the surface of the rest of me.
